  • TITLE:
    Afterschool Program Youth Mentor (Bus Monitor)

    SUPERVISOR:
    Coordinator Associate of After School Programs

    SALARY:
    $16/hour, 18 hours a week

    TYPE:
    Part Time, hourly, 18 hours/ week


    TIME SCHEDULE

    The following are base Schedules. These may change with Director Approval


    After School Programming Days:

    2:30 PM - 6:00 PM (M-Thu)
    1:30 PM - 5:30 PM (Fri)

    Total hours (18)

    Occasional special events in the weekends (extra pay)

    GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

    A BSYC After School Youth Mentor is a young adult/adult who is passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of young people who live in underserved neighborhoods.

    • The role of this position is to help young people travel safe as our BSYC bus picks up them from their schools to our facility. T

    • This person will also assist the After School Program by leading small group activities, play with young people during free time, and help serve them meals.

    • This person must pass a criminal background check and be willing to receive training for certification working with young people.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Education Required: High school Diploma or equivalency as minimum

    Education Preferred: BA in Pastoral Ministry, Youth Development or equivalent. 1+ year experience working with youth

    Experience Required: 1+ years working experience with multicultural and multilingual group of young people

    Must demonstrate respect and some understanding for Catholic Church teaching, missions and values

    Skills Required: Excellent reading and writing in English

    Excellent management and organizational skills,

    Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

    Team Player with strong Conflict Resolution skills

    Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks

    Strong flexibility and openness to changing work environment

    Basic computer skills

Volunteer Opportunities

We are calling all who feel the love and passion for making a change in our young people’s lives. Our Agents of Renewal are awesome volunteers who share their time, skills, talents, experience, innovative creativity, faith, hope, and leadership that inspires young people to reach the stars and achieve success in school and in their lives.

  • A Mentor is a Young Adult/ Adult volunteer (18 and over), who is in compliance, or willing to work towards being in compliance with all our child safety policies and certifications and is in the service of our After School Program primarily as volunteer under the direction of our Coordinator of Community-based Programs.

    Minimum ONE day per week for at least 3 months.

    Choose from the following Schedule

    Monday between 3:00 - 7:00 PM
    Tuesday between 3:00 - 7:00 PM
    Wednesday between 3:00 - 7:00 PM
    Thursday between 3:00 - 7:00 PM
    Friday between 3:00 - 7:00 PM

    ONE responsibility or objective

    Create your own Club

    Be a coach or assistant coach of a sports club or team

    Help with tutoring a small group of young people with their homework

    Be a chaperone in our fieldtrips

    Any other idea you might have.

    BENEFITS:

    Receive Free services that are also provided to our parents of our programs

    Leadership workshops for certification.

  • DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:

    An On-Call Mentor is a School-year stipend position for a Young Adult/ Adult (18 and over), who has had experience in the field of child development, mentoring, or youth coaching and is in compliance or working towards being in compliance with all our child safety policies and certifications. An On-Call Mentor is available to mentor and support our After school Program on particular days and times as needed. BSYC sends a request for service to our On-Call Mentors with specific dates, times, and tasks. Those who are available, able, and willing to answer the call may choose to do so. ON-Call Mentors are stipend by the hour for their work.

    Stipend:

    $17 per hour minimum 3 hours per service to a possible max of 5 hours when needed.

    Time Commitment

    On a needed basis.

    You only commit to those dates and times you are able to give service.

    An On-Call Mentor might be ask to come and help out on a specific weekday between Mon-Fri 3:30 - 6:30 PM

    Responsibilities or objectives

    These may vary depending on the need at that specific request for service:

    Help assist in facilitating a club


    Be a coach or assistant coach of a sports club or team


    Help with tutoring


    Be a chaperone in our fieldtrips


    Supervise a small group or activity

    Paid Certification and Training

  • A Teen Peer Mentor is a Highschool Age teen who is a peer-to-peer agent of renewal, inspiring love, hope, and faith in our young members. Teen Peer Mentors have the flexibility to choose what day and time to come and help our Afterschool program depending on his/her ability and schedule.

    TIME AND SCHEDULE

    Minimum ONE day per week. Choose from the following Schedule and Time:

    Monday between 3:00- 7:00 PM

    Tuesday between 3:00 - 7:00 PM

    Wednesday between 3:00 - 7:00 PM

    Thursday between 3:00 - 7:00 PM

    Friday between 3:00 - 7:00 PM


    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Be a tutor and help children with homework

    Support our After School Program Coordinator

    Assist an After School Mentor

    Help with our Special events (if you are available)

If you are a non-profit, certified, experienced organization that works with youth and are looking to join forces with other organizations that share your passion, please consider our proposal:

    • We offer our facilities where you could exercise your professional youth services or clubs (sports, arts, leadership development) one hour a week as long as it is free for young people to enjoy and grow.

    • You must be a 501C3, certified, in full safety compliance, or willing to complete the safety compliance we require in order to work with our young people.
